Ms. Purcell is a partner in Hall Booth Smith's Atlanta office. She is a trial attorney with more than twenty years experience litigating cases for the defense. She specializes in medical malpractice and birth trauma litigation but has also handled general liability and premises liability matters. In addition, she consults with health care facilities on a variety of risk management and other issues.

Ms. Purcell was recently appointed leader of the firm's Birth Trauma and Catastrophic Injury Litigation Practice Group. This specialized group consults on high risk litigation throughout the country. The efficient management of this practice group allows for the firm's high risk litigators to enter a complex case at any point in time from inception of the claim up until a week before trial--to monitor, consult on, manage or try the case. Ms. Purcell puts together a comprehensive team of professionals to handle each matter. She also helps to maintain and develop the firm's cutting edge expert witness and medical literature databases.

With extensive background and experience litigating birth injury cases, Ms. Purcell is also hired by excess carriers to simply attend and monitor trials of high risk birth injury cases, to monitor jury reaction to evidence, and frequently to report and reassess risk during the trial to the excess carriers and hospital administrators. Ms. Purcell has a special interest in jury consultation, with an undergraduate degree in psychology and experience in jury and trial consulting and assessment. She is available to consult on jury selection and evaluation as well as mock jury evaluation of high risk cases.

Ms. Purcell is highly involved in the HBS Women's Forum and serves as a mentor to colleagues on a variety of issues. Ms. Purcell has made significant contributions within the firm.

Ms. Purcell participates in a number of local community based organizations. She currently serves on the Atlanta Community Food Bank Advisory Board and the Board of Visitors for the University of Georgia Library System. She is a member of the High Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Virginia Highlands Civic Association, the Georgia Historical Society, and All Saints Episcopal Church. She is also a former docent of the High Museum of Art.
