Daniel Crumby is an associate in the Atlanta office of Hall Booth Smith. After high school, he joined the United States Army as a military police. He served three years in Germany and also at Fort Bliss,Texas before being selected for an Army ROTC Scholarship. Daniel attended the University of Texas at El Paso and graduated at the top of his class and was named a Top Ten Senior. Further, he was a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps where he was named a Distinguished Military Graduate and the Army granted him permission to attend law school.
Daniel attended the University of Texas School of Law and he was awarded the Fulbright & Jaworski Scholarship. He also won the Strasburger & Price Mock Trial Competition and was selected into the National Order of the Barristers. After law school, Daniel returned to the Army as a Judge Advocate General ("JAG") officer in a variety of assignments, including Deputy Staff Judge Advocate of White Sands Missile Range, a prosecutor, legal assistance attorney and the officer-in-charge of the Fort Bliss Tax Center. He was twice awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
After Daniel resigned from the Army, he joined the United States Attorney's Office in the Western District of Texas. Daniel served as a federal prosecutor for nearly four years. As a federal prosecutor on the Southern border in El Paso, Texas, Daniel directed and prosecuted numerous cases including healthcare fraud, bank fraud, narcotics, alien smuggling, child exploitation, human and sex trafficking, and other criminal violations. He also assisted in the investigation and prosecution of a Medicaid healthcare fraud case involving approximately $66 million in billing by a dental clinic and oversaw a bank fraud investigation involving a $1 million commercial property business loan.
Mr. Crumby's background as a federal prosecutor puts him in a great position to conduct independent investigations for clients at the request of boards of directors, counsel, and compliance management. In addition, his unique background positions him to advise and represent clients in health care fraud and other serious criminal matters.
Daniel later transferred to the United States Attorney's Office in the Southern District of Georgia, where he investigated and prosecuted white collar crimes including procurement fraud, mortgage fraud, wire fraud, theft of government funds, child sexual exploitation, and other complex cases. Further, he directed a multistate credit card and identity fraud investigation involving the Secret Service, IRS, the Federal Protective Service, and state and local law enforcement agencies. Daniel transitioned to civil practice and he represented the United States and its agencies and employees in a wide variety of trial cases. His case load included defensive of medical malpractice, premises liability and other tort litigation, labor and employment, tax, bankruptcy and creditor's rights, and civil rights.
In 2011, Daniel continued his education by completing his Master of Business Administration, with a concentration in International Business, at University of Texas at El Paso. To further his expertise in the health care industry, Daniel received a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Seton Hall University and is certified in Health Care Compliance by the Health Care Compliance Association.. In 2015, Daniel was selected by the National Black Lawyers as a Top 100 lawyer and as a Top 40 Under 40 lawyer.
In January 2014, Daniel received a Certificate of Recognition from Jim B. Comey, Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation, for excellence in successfully prosecuting a major criminal case. In 2013, Daniel Crumby received a Certificate of Appreciation from an Assistant Special Agent in Charge, with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
