Mr. Meyer von Bremen is a partner in HBS's Albany office and boasts a well-rounded practice with a tremendous amount of experience as a litigator. Mr. Meyer von Bremen  served in the state senate representing a large portion of Southwest Georgia in the Georgia General Assembly for five terms (8 counties for four of those terms) 1999-2009. He served as Chairman of the Senate Special Judiciary Committee, as the Senate Minority Leader, and as Chairman of the Ethics Committee. He also represented Georgia in committee work for the National Council of State Legislators. In addition, he is an arbitrator and mediator with South Georgia ADR Service, LLC.

Practice Areas


Mr. Meyer von Bremen was raised in a family with a construction background. His late father was a professional designer who served as President of the American Institute of Building Designers, and his grandfather was a finish carpenter. His construction practice of over 30 years includes a wide range of experience including cases such as handling materialman's liens through the defense and prosecution of construction defect and design claims both residential and commercial.


Mr. Meyer von Bremen's medical and transactional experience comes together in his successful representation of dental practices. Mr. Meyer von Bremen's expertise in providing sound legal advice in the day to day legal matters encountered in a dental practice are well recognized. Matters involving patient consent forms, lease agreements, independent contractor arrangements, landlord tenant issues, as well as all health care related issues encountered in dental practice including liability issues and claims of professional negligence.


Mr. Meyer von Bremen is committed to helping employers avoid, resolve and prevail in employment disputes involving the full range of employment and labor issues. This includes litigation in state and federal courts and the representation of employers before administrative agencies over claims including: discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodation, and state torts such as negligent supervision and hiring, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, defamation, invasion of privacy, and wrongful discharge allegations.

Environmental, Mass Torts & Land Use

Mr. Meyer von Bremen has been able to draw on five terms of service as a State Senator for Georgia where he gained experience in environmental concerns while serving on the Committee of Natural Resources. He has studied water issues in great detail, written carbon sequestration legislation, and served for many years as a Georgia representative on the Environmental and Natural Resources Committee for the National Council of State Legislators. He stands ready to work with you to negotiate contracts, deal with permitting issues, and work in litigation both in the prosecution and defense of environmentally related claims.

General Liability

Mr. Meyer von Bremen has practiced law in Southwest Georgia and Albany for over 30 years. While Albany is a metropolitan statistical area, it is surrounded by several rural communities, where attorneys are often expected to handle a wide variety of cases. This holds especially true for Michael, as he has handled a tremendous volume of automobile negligence cases, fire loss claims, claims involving defective products, construction defects, liability arising out of contractual disputes, and premises liability claims. He also is most familiar with Southwest Georgia, having represented eight of its counties when he served in the State Senate.

Government Affairs

For over a decade, Mr. Meyer von Bremen served as State Senator from the Georgia’s 12th District, and personally sponsored or cosponsored over 179 senate bills during his tenure. He served as Chair of the Ethics committee, Minority Leader, and Chair of the Special Judiciary Committee for two terms while he was a minority party member. During this time, he developed strong relationships with members of both the House and Senate, as well as employees. His deep knowledge of these individuals and the legistlative process helps to ensure his ability to best represent his clients.

International Business

The son of a German immigrant who became a naturalized U.S. citizen, half of Michael's family is still in multiple areas of Germany.  While he served as a State Senator for Georgia, he was one of five from the United States selected by the Naumann Foundation to participate in a legislative exchange program where he met with political and business leaders on the state and national levels in Germany in 2007, developing friendships which he considers lifelong. He welcomes the opportunity to represent your interests in establishing a business relationship with Georgia, and especially in representing your interests in Georgia's political arena.

Products Liability

Mr. Meyer von Bremen has experience in defective product cases involving injuries for over 20 years. He has a broad understanding of these issues, and has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in these cases. He has been involved in cases involving pipeline explosions, transformer explosions, regulator explosions, automobile designs, and a variety of cases involving design defects with machinery. He recognizes and adapts quickly to the complex issues that can be involved, and is especially capable of unearthing the details necessary to successfully handle a products liability claim.

Professional Negligence / Medical Malpractice

Mr. Meyer von Bremen brings many years of experience in the Medical Malpractice area and understands directly many of the more recent statutory changes in the Georgia Code in this regard. He is most familiar with Southwest Georgia and the role of the medical provider, as well as the demands they face in this economically challenged area of the state.


Mr. Meyer von Bremen has represented many small to medium size businesses preparing covenants not to compete, buy sale agreements, corporate/business formation and registration and commercial leases. As a former state senator for 10 years, he also knows first hand the needs of business clients in the formation of political action committees and then walking clients through the everchanging reporting requirements of Georgia Ethics Commission.  As an experienced litigator with over 30 years experience he can also roll his experience in the transactional component into representation in the commercial litigation field.


Mr. Meyer von Bremen has handled multiple cases involving serious injury and death from trucking accidents. He keeps a close watch on the ever changing rules and regulations applied to the industry and how they affect litigation.

Workers’ Compensation

Mr. Meyer von Bremen, through his 30 plus years of practice, has successfully represented his clients at the hearing level, settlement and mediation level, and appeals level. He recognizes the complexities that often confront a party to a claim, and works diligently to get them through the problems they confront.
