Jennifer Harrison is a Partner in our Memphis office. Her medical background, serving as a cardiovascular ICU nurse and health and safety nurse, allows her to apply her personal experience to defense work in the healthcare field. With over 10 years of medical malpractice defense experience, she passionately represents healthcare practitioners. The integration of medicine and law fascinates and inspires Ms. Harrison daily to be a zealous and staunch advocate for healthcare practitioners.
Ms. Harrison has several published appellate decisions and numerous summary judgment awards. She enjoys teaching lawyers and legal staff about medical terminology, medical record review and organization. In addition, Ms. Harrison has served as mentor to several law students. In her free time, she enjoys reading, exercising and spending time with her friends, family and two miniature Schnauzers.
Ms. Harrison has over a decade of experience defending health care providers and facilities. She works closely with risk management and administration on many issues, including but not limited to: quality improvement, risk management, conservatorship, power of attorney (health care), peer review matters, root cause analysis, documenting, vicarious liability issues, credentialing, and EMTALA. She has defended hospitals and acute care clinics in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
In her pro-active protection of individual providers who practice in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi, she maintains close contact with the clients and carriers and includes them in the litigation process (to the extent a provider wishes to be included). She works to secure elite defense experts in numerous specialties, depending on the specific facts and allegations of each case. She researches the medicine and the law to broaden her knowledge of each professional practice. Her relentless cross-examination of adverse, medical experts during depositions has led to numerous dismissals (voluntary and involuntary).
Ms. Harrison is experienced in mediating cases in various stages of the litigation process, including pre-suit mediation. She performs a thorough investigation, conducts research, secures pertinent medical documents, obtains expert opinions, considers potential dispositive motion success, and provides candid feedback to clients and carriers. She has had great success in mediating professional negligence cases to resolution.
