Ms. James is a partner in the Atlanta office. After receiving her Bachelors Degree, cum laude, in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia, Ms. James then graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law, cum laude, with her J.D. While in law school, she was an active member of the University of Georgia Moot Court Team, a semi-finalist in the Intrastate Moot Court competition, and a quarter-finalist in the Russell Moot Court competition. In addition, she was on the editorial board and a notes editor for the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law and a pupil in the Chattahoochee Inn of Court.
In 2014, Ms. James was selected for the Southern Region Lawyers of Color Hot List. In 2015, Ms. James was listed as one of Georgia's Top 40 Under 40 by The National Black Lawyers. She was also selected as a Rising Star in 2017 and 2018.
Ms. James has successfully drafted and submitted numerous appellate briefs to the appellate courts in Georgia. She has been involved in appellate cases involving multiple areas of the law, including medical malpractice, premises liability and property law. Ms. James has extensive knowledge of the appellate rules and procedures governing the appeals process in Georgia.
Ms. James' general liability experience includes the defense of numerous premise liability cases ranging from slip and falls to negligent security allegations. She continues to work diligently with clients in order to ensure they are defended and their interests are protected.
Ms. James is actively involved in the defense of hospitals, physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals through the negligence/medical malpractice litigation group. While Ms. James' practice is primarily litigation based, she also advises her clients to minimize risk and adopt safe practices that are consistent with the safe and effective operation of their medical facility.
Ms. James has extensive experience in the defense of property owners that find themselves involved in litigation. Ms. James has defended retail stores, hotels, and restaurants in a wide range of cases such as slip/trip and falls, malicious prosecution, and adulterated food allegations. Her experience has led her to success in both the pre-trial motion phase of litigation and at trial.
Ms. James represents employers, insurers, self-insureds, and servicing agents in workers' compensation claims. She has a vast amount of experience successfully handling all aspects of non-litigated and litigated claims, including cases at the appellate level.
