Sam Sykes is an associate in the Atlanta office of Hall Booth Smith. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Atlanta's John Marshall Law School. While in law school, he received six CALI Awards for Academic Excellence and was a Sara and Michael Salomon Prize Award Recipient. He was active in the Student Bar Association, serving as secretary and 2 years as a class representative. He was also an Office of Academic Achievement Fellow from 2012-2014. Mr. Sykes received his B.A. in Political Science from Southern Methodist University.
Before moving into civil practice, Mr. Sykes served as an Assistant Solicitor-General in the State Court of Gwinnett County. He has successfully prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases, solo-chaired multiple jury trials from voir dire to verdict, tried several bench trials, argued motions on behalf of the State, and negotiated a multitude of plea agreements. He also interned for several years at Hall Booth Smith. An Atlanta native, Mr. Sykes attended Woodward Academy and is married to Laura Parker Sykes.
Mr. Sykes has represented numerous companies, focusing primarily on litigation prevention through advising employers and employees on best practices to avoid potential claims for discrimination, harassment, and reporting procedures mandated by governmental agencies.
Mr. Sykes’ practice focuses heavily on representing and defending clients involved in general liability cases, to include slip and fall accidents, dog bites, HOA disputes, premises liability, products liability, trucking and automotive accidents, and cases involving catastrophic injuries. Mr. Sykes has represented general liability clients throughout the State of Georgia.
Mr. Sykes has extensive knowledge of issues involving landlord/tenant negotiations and disputes, and commercial/retail leases. His practice also focuses on advising clients involved in large land assemblages, joint ventures, and advising both real estate developers and brokers.
