About HBS: History

The core group of attorneys at HBS began practicing together in 1980 with the firm of Phillips, Hart & Mozley. In 1982, George Hart, Terry Sullivan, Elaine Whitehurst, Mike Frick, Phil Henry, Rush Smith and Alex Booth formed the litigation boutique, Hart & Sullivan, P.C.  The firm represented numerous clients including business and insurance companies in the state of Georgia, focusing on professional liability defense, general liability, property and casualty, and workers' compensation.

When George Hart left the firm to pursue a different practice, the firm became Sullivan, Hall, Booth & Smith, P.C.  It was then, in 1989, that the firm's reputation, client base, and litigation practice became known around the state as one of Georgia's leading litigation firms.

In 1996, the withdrawal of one of the firm’s partners lead to the addition of Jack Slover, an experienced trial lawyer, and fourth named partner for HBS.  Recognizing the opportunity to better serve our clients throughout the state, HBS opened its first branch office in Tifton, Georgia, in 1999.  Beginning with a small staff, the Tifton office soon grew into one of the firm's larger regional offices, allowing our local clients the accessibility of a smaller law firm coupled with the resources of a larger firm.

As the demand grew for skilled attorneys in southeast Georgia, HBS opened its next office in Brunswick, Georgia, and chose returning partner Mike Frick to manage what would become the firm's second largest office. Other offices soon opened around Georgia; Nashville, Tennessee; and most recently Charleston, South Carolina, bringing the number of attorneys and offices from its humble beginnings of one office and seven lawyers to eight offices in three states with over 100 lawyers. HBS also an international office in Tbilisi, Country of Georgia

As our client needs have grown, the firm has also expanded from its roots as an insurance defense practice to a firm that occupies prominent spots in the Southeast providing full service legal services in over thirty practice areas including Medical Malpractice, Government Affairs, Long Term Care, Healthcare, Transportation, Workers Compensation, and Professional Liability.

Currently the firm continues to serve its clients across the country at the same time as it occupies the position of local counsel to our clients located throughout the state of Georgia, the southeastern region of the United States, and Tbilisi, Country of Georgia.
