In 1980, a core group of the firm’s attorneys, including Rush Smith and Alex Booth began, practicing together, focusing on professional liability defense, general liability, property and casualty claims, and workers' compensation. John Hall joined soon after, and by 1989, with a growing reputation for excellence, an impressive client base, and a successful litigation practice, the firm became one of Georgia's leading litigation law firms.
Expanding to Meet Clients Needs
In 1998, HBS embraced strategic planning as a means of better serving its clients. Client suggestions led to expansion geographically and new practice areas.
In 1999, HBS opened its first branch office in Tifton, Georgia, to better serve clients throughout the state. That office grew quickly and remains one of the firm's larger regional offices, enabling us to offer local clients smaller law firm accessibility combined with larger firm resources. As the demand grew for skilled attorneys in southeast Georgia, HBS opened what became the firm’s second largest office in Brunswick, Georgia.
The firm has since opened other offices around Georgia; in Nashville and Memphis Tennessee; Charleston, South Carolina; Jacksonville and N. Palm Beach, Florida; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Birmingham, Alabama; bringing the firm from its humble beginnings of one office and seven attorneys to a powerful, five-state, thirteen-office firm. HBS also maintains an affiliated office in Tbilisi, Georgia.
HBS has expanded from its roots as a litigation firm to become a prominent full-service law firm with a wide range of practice areas including litigation, corporate practice, transactional practice, mergers and acquisitions, medical malpractice, government affairs, long-term care, healthcare, transportation, workers’ compensation, and professional liability.
In addition to serving as local counsel to clients throughout Georgia and the Southeast, we serve clients across the United States.
